Privacy
Peakaday is built so that almost nothing leaves your iPhone. No account, no ads, no tracking.
Updated 2 November 2026
On your iPhone only
- Steps, wheelchair pushes and walking distance from Apple Health, and motion data, move you along each day's route. They stay on your iPhone, in Peakaday and its widgets.
- Your goal, streak, Passport and history stay on your iPhone.
- Friends' names and photos come from your own Contacts, one person at a time, when you pick them. Peakaday never reads your whole address book and never sends a name, phone number, email or photo anywhere.
If you use Friends
Friends is optional, and nothing is sent until you invite someone or join them. Peakaday's small server, run on Cloudflare, then keeps only:
- A random ID for your iPhone, with a secret that proves it's yours. No name, email, phone number or Apple Account. The secret is kept in your iCloud Keychain, so a new iPhone keeps your friends; you choose their names again from your Contacts.
- Today's place on the route: which route, and how far along it you are, with how many days this month you've reached your goal (your Season's stamps). It's worked out on your iPhone from your steps in Apple Health, and only the place and that number are sent: never your step count, your Health data or your location. Only friends you share your place with see it, and it's deleted 2 days after its last update.
- Who your friends are, as random IDs, and the two choices you make for each: whether they see your place, and whether their cheers reach you.
- Your invites, until they end: 24 hours for a group link, and 14 days for one person, or a day after they accept.
- Cheers, which are phrases from a fixed list, never your own words. Deleted after 7 days.
- People you blocked.
- When you last used Friends, to the day. If you stop for a year, everything about you is removed.
- Push tokens, so a friend reaching a stop can update your widgets, and cheers and joins can reach you. Notifications go through Apple's Push Notification service and carry no names: your iPhone adds them from your Contacts.
Your iPhone reaches the server like any website, so Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver each request and may keep it in short-lived logs. Peakaday doesn't store it.
Deleting it
Settings › Friends › Delete My Friends Data removes everything about you from the server at once, and from your iPhone. Your friends aren't told. Use it before deleting Peakaday: deleting the app clears your iPhone, but not the server, and not the key in your iCloud Keychain.
Never
No ads, no analytics, no tracking across apps or websites. Nothing is sold, or shared with anyone for any other purpose.
New places
New routes and photos arrive as downloads from Apple's servers, like an app update.
